There are many ways land is cleared and each time it is cleared this reduces Habitat. It also reduces this earth’s ability to process Carbon Dioxide back into oxygen, which we all need to breathe and give us life.
When you look further into land clearing there are multiple methods such as:
- Pulling the Land – Usually done with 2 Bulldozers, a heavy chain between the Bulldozers and sometimes a large metal ball. The Bulldozers pull the chain, and all the vegetation is pulled out by the roots. This method is used on a very large scale.
- Pushing the Land or Bulldozing – Is exactly as it sounds a Bulldozer is used to push the vegetation over.
- Clear Felling – Chopping the trees down on mass with a chain saw or a specially designed machine that grabs the tree and then cuts the tree down.
- Poisoning Trees – A product such as Tordon (Treeson/Axeman) is used and injected into trees and the tree eventually dies.
Once the land is cleared normally the trees would be raked (stick raked) into piles and then burned.
We do realise land is required for agriculture. However why clear more land when we should employ more environmentally sustainable methods for agriculture and utilise the cleared land better?
All our projects are focused on stopping land clearing and preserving Habitat for the Future.
